The Classic route is about 9km, takes roughly 3 hours at a relaxed pace, and loops back to the starting point at Bürkliplatz. It's suitable for most fitness levels: this is an urban hike with some stairs and hills, not an alpine trek. Not suitable for wheelchairs or other mobility impairments.

The self-guided version is a downloadable PDF (CHF 45) you can walk at your own pace, whenever suits you. The guided version (CHF 275) means you have your guide Giada walking it with you in person, sharing the stories and creating a more immersive experience on the spot.

Kids who can manage the walk are always welcome and generally have fun on this type of city adventure on foot. Strollers and wheelchairs are not suitable for this type of tour.

In Switzerland we like to say there's no bad weather, just bad clothing, so make sure you dress for the day. Layers are great, and yes, you can do the hike in bad weather: remember that you are hiking in the city (not on a remote mountain), which means you can always bail out and tuck into a cozy coffee shop for shelter.
